We are to help you understand how equine wellness programs work and what the benefits of those are. Please contact us regarding your question regarding the different wellness programs.
The key is prevention, prevention, prevention.
Every horse in the US is requiring every year to be tested for Equine Infectious Anemia which is a very devastating disease in horses with not known cure. This is called: Coggins test and require a veterinarian visit to your farm or stable to collect all the information and the blood to be submitted to the laboratory. By law you will need to have a current negative Coggins test in order to sale or transport your horse (moving, competing or emergency) out of your barn.
We recommend that you plan ahead and schedule yearly Coggins, vaccines and dental floating in order to save you time and money in extra non planning farm calls.
A very important portion of any wellness program is an annual physical exam. This allows the doctor to get to know your horse, identify any medical condition or problems with training early before they result in emergencies or a prolonged setback as well as discuss wellness program (vaccines, deworming, dental care, nutrition) and preventive medicine in general.
We are proud to be very diligent to be on-time for all our appointments, however, when emergencies occur, we have to work on those right away and most of the time there are time consuming. In these cases we need to do a rearrangement of our schedule.
We appreciate your understanding if an emergency make us late for an appointment. Please be certain that we will be doing the same if you need us for an emergency.
It is very important that when you call for an appointment, please let us know what need to be done at that appointment so we can schedule and plan the appropriate amount of time. If there are unexpected add-on when the doctor arrives, the extra time needed for sure will make the doctor late for the next appointment. We will work with you and try to help you but if the required extra time is to much we will have to schedule another visit. Remember that you would not like us to be late for your appointment especially if your plans are very organized for that day.
Unless prior arrangements have been made with the office, the bill must be paid at the time service is rendered.
If the doctor recommends a dental float, recheck or your horse’s vaccines need to be boostered, please call the office to schedule an appointment. Remember that vaccines need to be boostered in 3 – 4 weeks to produce the fully effect.
